Here are the San Diego Chargers’ 2014 NFL Draft selections by order. I have given each player a grade based on performance, potential and position on the team.

CB Jason Verrett= A-

Out of TCU, Verrett was one of the nation’s top rated corners. While at Texas Christian, Verret was able to record 63 tackles, 16 passes defended and six interceptions in his sophomore season. This season for the Chargers, Verrett has been great for the Chargers, collecting 19 tackles along with four passes defended and an interception against the Raiders. While he does not lead the team in passes defended, Verrett has adjusted very well into the NFL considering his young age. Soon enough Verrett could be one of San Diego’s premiere corners. At the moment though, Verrett is proving that he is a solid pick up. The Chargers rank 11th in the league in passing yards allowed per game (229.1), a huge improvement from last year when the Chargers were in the bottom six teams in the League in yards given up. Verrett has showed his promise early and will continue to show that as the years go on.

OLB Jeremiah Attaochu= C+/B-

Out of Georgia Tech, nobody knew if Jeremiah Attaochu would see any playing time in the NFL in his rookie season. To some people’s surprise, Attaochu has seen some playing time for the Bolts this season, but not much. In his rookie season, Attaochu has recorded six tackles, including a sack, a forced fumble and a field goal block. Last game against the Dolphins Cordarro Law played at the OLB, while Attaochu did not record a single statistic. Considering that he does have some stats to back up his selection, Attaochu’s play has really been minimal for the Chargers this season. He still does deserve a B- ranking because of his forced fumble and field goal block. At the OLB, the Chargers need depth and Attaochu gives the Bolts that depth that they could need going into the post-season if he can stay healthy.

OG Chris Watt= B

This season has been quite a season for the Chargers offensive line. After losing Nick Hardwick, the Chargers offensive line has slowly showed signs of deterioration. At the offensive guard position, Chris Watt has played in six of the Chargers nine games this season with zero starts under his belt. The reason why I have Watt as a B is because of his health and what he brings the chargers in terms of depth. He has not yet started a game at right guard this season, but he has still played in some games and is healthy enough so that in the case that if starting OG Johnnie Troutman were to go down, Watt has already had some playing time under his belt in order to go. As a rookie, being a healthy back-up is probably one of the most important roles. And considering the role an offensive lineman plays on a team, Watt’s contribution has been silent, but imperative to the Chargers success.
