Lamar Miller, Patrick Willis Injury Updates

Miami Dolphins star running back Lamar Miller has been one of the most consistent players at the position in the league this year, as he is averaging 4.9 yards per carry and has never had less than 46 yards in a single game despite only getting more than 15 carries on one occasion. I wish the Dolphins would give him the ball more often, because it’s clear to me that he’s one of the more talented backs in the league.

There was a chance the Dolphins would not have him for today’s big game against the Detroit Lions, as he suffered a sprained AC joint in last week’s 37-0 blowout win over the San Diego Chargers. However, Miller was able to get enough practice in, and the shoulder sprain wasn’t deemed to be as serious as it could have been. It’s usually a one-week injury and causes a significant amount of pain, so while Miller was always expected to play, he was also expected to be limited.

The Miami Herald’s Adam Beasley reports that Miller is indeed active, but fantasy owners should strongly consider benching him, because the Lions have a solid run D and Miller will only receive limited snaps. If you don’t have any better options, though, then you should consider taking the risk. Miller doesn’t get enough carries in the Dolphins offense, so it will be interesting to see how many a “limited” Miller gets (assuming he is indeed limited, of course).

San Francisco 49ers star linebacker Patrick Willis suffered a toe injury back in Week 6 against the rival St. Louis Rams, and he was always expected to miss a third straight game. Although he was only listed as questionable on the injury report, everyone from Vic Fangio to Jeff Darlington has considered him doubtful today. As expected, CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reports that Willis joins Dan Skuta on the inactive list, so the New Orleans Saints won’t have to worry about Willis against Mark Ingram or Jimmy Graham.
