Kyle Orton will continue to start

Buffalo Bills veteran quarterback Kyle Orton displaced second-year pro E.J. Manuel as the starter back in Week 5, but he’s faltered lately after a solid start to his career as a quarterback in Buffalo. After averaging just 5.4 yards per attempt in a subpar showing against the on-fire Kansas City Chiefs, Orton managed a dreadful 4.9 yards per attempt on Thursday Night Football against the rival Miami Dolphins, and it was a truly awful performance that featured an equally anemic 56.4% completion percentage.

Orton’s had it hard without a fully healthy Sammy Watkins, but the Bills star player should be healthy next week. According to the Bills official Twitter account, head coach Doug Marrone stated that he will continue to stand behind Orton as the starter, “Right now I’m sticking with Kyle (Orton), we’ll go with who gives us the best chance to win.”

I agree that Orton still gives the Bills a better chance of winning, though it’s hard to tell how much of a difference that is. This team is sliding, and Orton needs to play well next week against the rival New York Jets, otherwise Marrone will likely go back to Manuel. They won’t have much to lose at that point, and I wonder if the Bills would like to take one more peek at the QB they picked up in the first round against what most draft analysts stated.
