Each year, there are teams who end up being overrated and some who we didn’t talk about enough. Which teams are overhyped heading into the 2023 season?  Last year, one team that was definitely overhyped a bit was the Denver Broncos.  They simply crashed and burned and I’m not sure anyone saw it coming.

On the other hand, three teams that surpassed expectations were the New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Seattle Seahawks, who all won nine games and made the playoffs.  The 2023 NFL season will be no different.  There are some teams that are going to fall short of expectations that are placed on them in the offseason, and they’ll also be teams who we aren’t talking about enough that will burst onto the scene.

At the end of the day, I don’t think the players really care how the national media perceives them.  The football is played on the field, not in a studio in New York.  I think three teams come to mind as those that are currently being overhyped as we head into the 2023 season.

Let’s cover them here.

New York Jets

Don’t the 2023 New York Jets already kind of feel like the 2022 Denver Broncos?  There’s a ton of similarities, actually.  Nathaniel Hackett is one.  He was the HC of the Broncos in 2022 and is now the OC of the Jets.

Secondly, both clubs currently hold the two longest active playoff drought streaks in the NFL.  Thirdly, both teams were and are coached by head coaches who have more questions than answers.  No one could see for sure if Nathaniel Hackett was a good head coach going into the season, and Robert Saleh hasn’t proven much so far as a HC.

Another big similarity is that both teams recently acquired aging, veteran QBs who may be past their prime.  Russell Wilson looked awful last year, and 2022 Aaron Rodgers was actually the worst statistical Aaron Rodgers during his starting career in the NFL.

Couple that with the Jets having a poor offensive line and a bunch of young and inexperienced players, and it’s easy to see how they are an overhyped team.  The national media have not stopped talking about them this offseason.
