Alshon Jeffery adds second TD catch

The Chicago Bears have the Detroit Lions on upset watch, as this NFC North battle on Thanksgiving is swinging against the Lions this time around. Star wideout Alshon Jeffery turned a screen pass into a ten-yard touchdown with some blocking help from No. 1 WR Brandon Marshall, and that gave the Bears an early 7-0 lead, which the Lions cut down a bit after ace kicker Matt Prater nailed a relatively long field goal from 46 yards out.

But the momentum is clearly on the Bears side, and they now have a 14-3 lead after a second touchdown reception from Jeffery, as they took full advantage of Jared Allen’s strip-sack. Allen’s pre-game warm-ups were an indicator of what was to come, and the potential Hall of Fame DE roasted Lions veteran guard Rob Sims, who, like the rest of the line, is having a torrid time; it’s incredible to think that the Lions line was among the best in the NFL last season (losing Larry Warford and Riley Reiff has certainly hurt).

More from Chicago Bears

Jeffery’s second TD catch was from six yards out, and he’s certainly giving both Bears fans and his fantasy owners something to cheer about. Jay Cutler stuck in there under pressure to deliver the throw to an open Jeffery in the end zone, and the young wideout leaped up to corral the pass, showing solid hands and body control on the play.

With that catch, Jeffery now has four receptions for 24 yards on five targets, as he’s moving the chains for the Bears, who are dominating a disappointing Lions offense. Meanwhile, Cutler is 7-8 with two TDs, though Matthew Stafford has performed admirably with a 10-12-104 line (8.7 yards per attempt), as he’s unsurprisingly targeted Calvin Johnson, who is working a side advantage against standout rookie Kyle Fuller, frequently.
