Brian Hoyer Gets Start Over Johnny Manziel

The Cleveland Browns will stick with Brian Hoyer as their starter this weekend against the Indianapolis Colts and put the Johnny Manziel era on hold according to Jay Glazer. The media and fans would love to see Manziel get his shot on the field as the starter, but head coach Mike Pettine wants to give Hoyer another shot to get out of his funk and lead this team to the playoffs. Hoyer has brought this team into the playoff race and should get the opportunity to finish it out.

More from Cleveland Browns

Manziel stepped in nicely on Sunday and made a nice run for a score. He brought some life to the team on offense. He had people buzzing when he got into the game. People will want to see him back on the field again soon. If Hoyer makes one misstep, the fans will be yelling for Manziel.

The Browns are sitting at 7-5 in the playoff race. Hoyer is the quarterback that has brought this team here. In the final 4 games of the season, he will get the chance to lead his team into the playoffs.

There are a couple of huge division games at the tail end of the schedule. The team has to face the Cincinnati Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens still to close out the year. The Browns already have beaten the Bengals once this season and another win against them would give them the tie breakers for the division. They get to play them on their home turf this time around as well. The first focus for the team has to be on the Indianapolis Colts this weekend. If Hoyer can pull out the victory on Sunday, he will silence the critics.

Mike Pettine is confident in his veteran quarterback. After 12 games, Hoyer has led his team to a 7-5 record. That is far better than anyone had expected out of this team to start out the year. He deserves another chance, but we all know that Johnny Football can be called upon in an instant if he falters.

The team made the right move. Manziel’s time to start will likely come next season. This year, the team has been handed to Brian Hoyer and he has the team on the cusp of the playoffs. He deserves the shot to get them into the dance.

Did Mike Pettine make the right choice?
