DeSean Jackson questionable, Vontae Davis out

Washington Redskins star wide receiver DeSean Jackson hasn’t practiced at all this week, and his status for Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams, who are coming off of a 52-0 drubbing of the Oakland Raiders, is in plenty of doubt. In fact, it’s a surprise to hear that the Redskins have officially listed Jackson as questionable on the injury report, and this smells like them simply holding out hope for their star player and trying to confuse the Rams. Jackson is one of the more injury-prone players in the league, and he’s too important to rush back from a significant injury.

The Redskins will probably leave him up to be a game-time decision, but I simply cannot see him playing after not practicing this week. Although he is crucial to his team’s success, it would be almost irresponsible to play him, and the Redskins have plenty of other talented pass-catchers. I mean, Jordan Reed looked pretty darn electric in a nine-catch, 123-yard performance against the Indianapolis Colts last week.

Speaking of the Colts, star cornerback Vontae Davis missed practice for a third straight day today, and it’s clear that he isn’t going to be cleared from his concussion. The Colts saw the writing on the wall, and Colts official site beat writer Kevin Bowen tweets that head coach Chuck Pagano stated that Davis has been ruled out.

It’s a huge loss for this team, and it means that Josh Gordon has a very favorable matchup. If Brian Hoyer struggles this week, then there’s simply no more excuses for him. He’s going up against a weak defense that will be missing it’s best player, and that should be enough reason for him to get back on track.
