Former Dallas Cowboys head coach and current Cleveland Browns courtesy consultant Bill Parcells gave his thoughts on the San Francisco 49ers’ anemic offense on Mike & Mike in the Morning Wednesday morning. He believes that because quarterback Colin Kaepernick is facing criticism for the first time in his career, his future will be based on how he handles controversy.
Parcells explained by saying that some guys can either deal with the drama and lead their team, or it’s how it pushes some to improve and be “successful.” (Quote via San Jose Mercury News)
"“But you find out about these guys, I’ve always said it: ‘The fans are booing you. The media is on your case…you’ve got to get back in the huddle to prove you can lead your team.’ Some guys just can’t handle that. Others can, and those that can wind up being successful.”"
The former head coach went on to talk about the lack of great quarterbacks in the NFL, and talked about “attributes you can’t see” that either makes a quarterback better in the future or flames out.
As for Kaepernick, Parcells believes that he “is right at the crossroads right now. He’s showed he can do something.”
There’s no question that the 49ers quarterback is facing is toughest season yet. Because of lofty expectations set early in his career with NFC Championship appearances and one Super Bowl appearance, this is the first season that the 49ers are facing elimination from the playoffs with three weeks to go. The 49ers are also on the verge of their first three-game losing streak in the Jim Harbaugh era, and they are at Seattle on Sunday afternoon.
