Golden Tate used to be viewed as a receiver that was good, but definitely not part of the upper echelon of NFL receivers. Tate obviously played on an offense in Seattle that was predicated on establishing the run. So when Tate signed a lucrative deal with the Detroit Lions in the offseason, how did he respond to people saying it was an unwise decision by the Lions?
By catching 99 passes for 1,331 yards and four touchdowns, in what was a better season than his teammate Calvin Johnson’s. Tate is a YAC (yards after catch) monster, and I’m sure he’s happy to be proving all of his doubters wrong.
Tate isn’t just a great player, though. He’s a little bit notorious with the media. Following the “Fail Mary” Tate was asked questions by reporters. When asked if he pushed off the defensive back, Tate responded by saying, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Prior to Sunday’s playoff game against the Cowboys, Dallas safety Barry Church accused Tate of taking a cheap shot on Sean Lee two years ago. Tate responded by saying: “Man, I don’t know this guy.”
Also, bonus points for his first name and actually waving goodbye to a defensive back.
