D+. Other than the Chargers offensive line, the Chargers defensive line has probably been the most disappointing aspect of this 2014 team. For starters, the Bolts ranked third-worst in the league in sacks with only 26.0 sacks on the season. Justin Houston is only four sacks away from that mark. Four.

The best player on this defensive line would have to be DE Corey Liuget who amassed 57 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. Other than Liuget, the Chargers did not have any pass rush on the defensive line. Sean Lissemore was a virtual non-factor with just 29 tackles and one sack. Opposite Liuget was DE Kendall Reyes who recorded 32 tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss.

Not having a pass rush is one thing, but not stopping the run is an entirely another thing. In 2014, San Diego ranked 26th in the league with 124.1 rushing yards allowed per game with a fourth-worst 4.5 yards per carry average. The Chargers 11 rushing touchdowns allowed ranked 14th in the NFL, as well.

In conclusion, the lack of tackling on running plays and lack of a pass rush on passing plays make this Chargers defensive line unit perhaps the worst in the AFC. If a defense cannot get pressure on the quarterback, that leaves the QB more time to make a throw and potentiall score a touchdown. Tom Tolesco needs to go out this winter and either A). Draft the best defensive presence in the league or B). trade for the best defensive presence in the league.
. DL. San Diego Chargers. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS DEFENSIVE LINE
