OLB Bruce Carter, Dallas Cowboys

Despite being on one of the most dilapidated defenses coming into 2014 (in terms of off-season signings and injuries to Sean Lee, etc), Bruce Carter was able to lead a surprisingly potent defenses in the NFC. Carter’s 68 tackles and four tackles for loss proved helpful in the run game, but it was his help in pass coverage that really showed Carter’s true value. In 2014, Carter nabbed five passes off of opposing QBs (ranked third most in the NFL) and defended eight passes (both career highs).

Basically, Carter transformed from a pass-rushing, run-stopping OLB (nine tackles for loss and 70 tackles in 11 games in 2012) to a more coverage-based, pass-stopping OLB.If the Chargers decide they want more of a coverage guy on their line backing corps, I think they should definitely give Carter a look.

Carter lead the Cowboys to a unprecedented NFC East title, all without ILB Sean Lee.Carter would be in new territory with the 3-4 defense, but I think that he will be able to adjust accordingly. He was forced to deal with adversity last season with the Cowboys and I think he can handle any adversity thrown his way with the Bolts.

For Telesco, Carter is the smarter option in terms of OLBs. He may not provide the same sack production, but he helps out more in the pass game and in terms of general football production.
