Along with CBs Brandon Flowers and Shareece Wright heading to free agency, SS Marcus Gilchrist will be an unrestricted free agent in 2015. The next man up for the Chargers is Jahleel Addae who is a long time away from being considered to be a starting strong safety in the National Football League. With this considered, the Bolts should start looking for strong safeties while they are in free agency. New York’s Antrel Rolle is perhaps the best SS on the board.

His consistent production along with post-season appearances make him one of the league’s best and one of the Chargers best options for a new strong safety in 2015.Rolle’s 87 tackles, three interceptions, nine passes defended and two tackles for loss this season are normal statistics for the former Hurricane safety. Since 2008 when he was with the Cardinals, Rolle has averaged 89.3 tackles, 2.7 interceptions and 6.7 passes defended per season, including a 98-tackle, six-interception season in 2013.

Other than Indianapolis’s Mike Adams, Rolle seems to be the best strong safety option on the market as of now. The Chargers could always draft a safety in the Draft, but there is always an element of risk in drafting a safety that free agency does not entail.

In short, the Bolts can either stay with Gilchrist or Rolle with the gentle Giant. It’s all in Tolesco’s hands now.
