The Indianapolis Colts are in need of a running back to replace Trent Richardson as that ongoing saga continues to unravel their relationship. An NFL insider believes that the best candidate is Frank Gore of the San Francisco 49ers.
Matt Miller of Bleacher Report said in a video that there was lots of interest in the veteran running back who looks like he’ll be leaving the 49ers after a huge transition in their coaching staff.
"“Well, there’s definitely a market for Frank Gore outside of San Francisco. The Indianapolis Colts are definitely going to be linked to him. The Trent Richardson trade has not worked out for them. They need a power running back. Chuck Pagano wants Frank Gore. Rob Chudzinski, who has the Miami connection to Frank Gore, also wants him.”"

Miller went on to say that the Washington Redskins would look at Gore as a secondary goal line back. There’s also still that connection in South Florida, and Gore could bolster the Miami Dolphins’ running back situation.
Of all three potential destinations, Miller felt that it was nearly a lock that the Colts could get him because it’s a place where he would be the undoubted starter and Chudzinski’s ties with the University of Miami.
"“They feel like the Indianapolis Colts are probably the shoo-in to get Frank Gore. When it was thought that Rob Chudzinski — maybe he was going to come to San Francisco to be offensive coordinator, they thought Frank Gore would come back.”"
Gore hasn’t been silent on pondering his future with the team. He posted the following on his Instagram account over the weekend (via NFL.com).
"“I know the fans love me but I need to know if the management does,” Gore wrote Sunday on his Instagram account, before removing the post."
He instead left a question for his followers, and there was a lot of emotional reaction from fans that obviously hope he stays.
It’s understandable why the fans are hoping for Gore to stay. They’re clutching at anything they can hold on to from recent success, but 49ers owner Jed York and general manager Trent Baalke have decided to change the coaching staff and that will affect multiple players.
San Francisco is going to likely sever ties with Michael Crabtree, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Gore leave either. If he has to deal with a coaching change as his career winds to the finish line, then he might as well be on a team that has a very high chance to compete in the postseason.
Indianapolis looks like the best destination if Washington and Miami are big contenders. Richardson won’t be back next season and the team is in need of a power running back. He would be competing for the starting job alongside Dan “Boom” Herron.
The Redskins are nowhere equipped to be competing in the postseason as the worst team in the NFC East. The Dolphins have an outside shot with Knowshon Moreno being a free agent and if they don’t believe Lamar Miller is the future for them. However, being in the same division as the New England Patriots isn’t as luxurious as the Colts being in the same division with the Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
If the 49ers are able to retain Gore for their future, that will be San Francisco’s biggest win of the offseason. If not, then the most likely destination to end his career would be in Indianapolis.
