Gary Garrison, 1966-1976

With one of the best names in existence, Gary Garrison served the Chargers well during his 11 seasons. His 7,533 yards, 58 touchdowns, 404 receptions and 18.6 yards per reception rank fourth, third, sixth, and 25th, respectively.

Number 27 made it to the Pro Bowl a total of four times during his career with San Diego. And while he wasn’t necessarily the biggest receiver out there (6’2”, 193), Garrison found a way to make plays.

A Chargers Hall of Famer, Garrison deserves this spot on the list not because he was the top performer in the league every season, but because of his longevity despite injuries. Besides his best season in 1968 when he caught 52 balls for 1,103 yards and 10 touchdowns, Garrison caught for over 1,000 yards only once (1970 when he grabbed 44 for 1,006 yards and 12 touchdowns).

Garrison would never see much success after 1970, but was still as consistent as they come in the NFL which is one of the most underrated qualities in a receiver. Not to mention, he averaged over 20 yards per reception five times from 1968-1973 which basically says every time Garrison got the ball, it was a huge play.

The ability to make big plays when called upon is a trait not many people had back then. Longevity and skill was the winning combination for Gary Garrison.
