Draft a DT early
The Lions won’t be able to fix all of their issues in free agency, unfortunately. Replacing Suh won’t be easy. In fact, it’s probably impossible. But by re-signing Fairley and Mosley, they can turn their attention to a number of talented options in the draft who can become a future star in Teryl Austin’s defense.

A player who could be available for them with the 23rd-overall pick is Florida State defensive tackle Eddie Goldman. Goldman’s ability to shed blocks and stuff the run would make him a suitable player for the system. There are question marks about his pass-rushing, but he can step right in and be a force in the run defense.
To bring in Goldman, it would almost certainly have to be with their first-round selection, and even then, it’s no guarantee he falls to them.
If the Lions opt to wait until the second-round, Ohio State’s Michael Bennett would be a good option. Bennett is a disruptive, smart player and would be an ideal fit for them.
If Suh leaves, the Lions will need to address the position in the draft. Fortunately, there a number of players that could be available to them in the first and second-rounds that have the potential to excel in the NFL.
