New York Jets: Making the case for Amari Cooper

The New York Jets have made some very splashy moves so far in the 2015 NFL Free Agency period. They’ve been able to land some of the top athletes available to overhaul and bolster their defensive secondary that has everyone talking. They finally added support for wide receiver Eric Decker by trading for Brandon Marshall in hopes of adding a much-needed jolt to their offense. Regardless, they still need to add more play-makers at wide receiver. Which leads me to believe, if he’s available at the 6th overall pick at the 2015 NFL Draft, the Jets must take Amari Cooper.

You see, while bringing in Marshall was a very smart move as well as landing a veteran quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Jets still need to add another game-changing receiver into the mix. Someone with good speed and a knack for hauling in touchdowns like there is no tomorrow.

The Jets ranked 32nd in the NFL when it came to scoring touchdowns in the red-zone. It seems every single time they worked hard to march down the field in hopes of scoring, they had to settle for nothing or simply just a field goal.

Last season with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Cooper hauled in 16 touchdowns for 1,727 yards on 124 receptions. He can run routes with ease and precision while always making big plays after the catch. In the red-zone, he’s quite the offensive threat as he always finds a way to get open to end a drive with a touchdown.

As the Jets finish up having their best free agency period in years, now the focus shifts to the draft. This is what seals the deal for any terrific offseason by having a successful draft with impact players that can step right in and contribute immediately.

While many believe the Jets should add a pass rushing athlete with their 6th overall pick or even trading their pick to move down, I honestly believe if Cooper is there for the taking, they should absolutely do it. Cooper could end up being this year’s Odell Beckham Jr. as we all know what he’s been doing for the New York Giants.

Cooper has all the tangibles and skill-set to really raise the bar for the Jets. If they are serious in contending next year and beyond, it’s all about offense in the grand scheme of things. All the best teams in the NFL are at the top due to their investments in top receivers and natural born play-makers.

It’s been a long time that the Jets drafted a top receiver to really raise the bar. Considering how solid their defense should be come next season, they still need to score plenty of points to win football games, especially with how dynamic the AFC East will be with all the new free agent additions across the division.

Overall, Cooper can bring credibility and then some to their offense as he can instantly give the Jets an infusion of young talent at wide receiver the likes of which they haven’t seen. Should the Jets go this route in the draft, there truly is no telling what they are capable of in the future.
