The Falcons have added a couple of tight ends in free agency. Jacob Tamme and Tony Moeaki, formally of the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks respectively, add some depth to the corps. The two aren’t world-beaters, but they fill a need.

The 6’8″ Levine Toilolo will be entering his third season, however he has disappointed in his first two years in Atlanta. Toilolo certainly has the physical tools to cause defenses nightmares, but he’s yet to impress as a receiver or blocker.

Adding another tight end into the mix with in the fourth-round makes sense for the Falcons. Ohio State’s Jeff Heuerman has the potential to be a talented tight end in the NFL. The 6’5″, 254-pounder is athletic and would bring a vertical threat in the passing game for Matt Ryan.

Zierlein wrote the following about Heuerman for his NFL.com draft profile:

"“Heuerman’s production fell off in 2014 after dealing with a foot injury and quarterback change. He is a vertical pass-catching tight end who can be moved all over the formation. Scouts seem to be unusually intrigued and excited about Heuerman’s NFL potential.”"

Heuerman would be able to compete with Tamme and Moeaki for a starting spot in 2015, and could eventually establish himself as the number-one.
