St. Louis Rams: Nick Foles adds excitement for 2015

Regardless if the St. Louis Rams want to keep adding more quarterbacks into the mix, at least for now Nick Foles has the potential to be the next face of the franchise. Acquired via trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Rams now have their potential franchise quarterback on their roster to give them a fighting chance in the NFC West. It won’t be easy, but at least now they have a reliable quarterback that comes with much success on his resume.

In three seasons with the Eagles, Foles threw for 6,753 yards, 46 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. With plenty of football years ahead of him, the trade that shipped Foles to the Rams could be a blessing in disguise.

I’ve always been a firm believer in those tough scenarios that a player gets released from a team, doesn’t get extended or in this case, traded to a completely different team, the chip on their shoulder is too big to ignore. While I’m sure Foles is excited about the new possibilities with the Rams, he will no doubt come out the gates playing some incredible football for his new team.

That’s the beauty of this entire situation and how it’ll tremendously benefit the Rams. It’s been too long that they didn’t have a definitive answer at quarterback as they thought it was the case with Sam Bradford but due to his health concerns, it turned out not to be the case.

Last season, the Rams were 6-10 and at the bottom of their division. While it wasn’t entirely due to their quarterback situation, this upcoming season has a ton of optimism that they finally have someone that can step right in and contribute immediately at the position.

According to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com, the Rams are not done adding more quarterbacks but there’s a big reason why that’s the case heading into the 2015 NFL Draft. Should something unfortunate happen to Foles like re-injuring his shoulder or anything like that, it’s better to have more options than less options.

I could see the Rams adding another option at quarterback in the later rounds of this year’s draft and have an all out competition this summer, but it’s nothing that should deter Foles from winning and being the best possible option. Foles brings a breath of fresh air into the organization which is always a good thing to have heading into next season.

With new upgrades on defense with free agent acquisitions in defensive tackle Nick Fairley and linebacker Akeem Ayers, the Rams are heading in the right overall direction. Now at the draft they can focus on adding another top wide receiver into the mix so they can really turn it up come next season.

Due to the latest rumblings of a possible relocation to Los Angeles, the Rams and especially their fans can use Foles and the possibility of being a surprise success story in the division as a nice distraction from all that.

All it takes is one quarterback to steer the franchise into clearer waters as I’m quite confident Foles and the new-look Rams will indeed surprise many this upcoming season. It’ll give everyone plenty of reasons why they should absolutely stay in St. Louis.
