Stop me if you have heard this before, a safety in his 30s comes to Oakland and enjoys a mini career renaissance as a leader of a young defense. Now we know Dawan Landry is no Charles Woodson but he has always been an excellent and underrated player. Landry spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets and has topped 100 tackles in four seasons and topped 80 in three others.

Judging by those numbers alone it’s clear that he is an excellent tackler but anyone who has seen a Jets game in recent years saw that he is not scared to stick his nose in and lay a big hit on opposing backs and receivers.

He has nowhere near the interception numbers of Woodson with just 13 in his career but he is an aggressive tackler that could give the Raiders another physical presence in the box. The team already signed Nate Allen and according to Rotoworld.com gave him a four-year, $23 million contract with $11.8 million guaranteed.

That is certainly starter money but Landry could be a contingency plan in case Allen reverts to his poor form in his last season in Philadelphia. Of course the Raiders could opt to find a safety in the draft or focus on mentoring Brandian Ross but Landry would give the defense another experienced veteran to play alongside Woodson.
