New York Jets: Making the case for Kevin White

With the 2015 NFL Draft approaching soon, the New York Jets have a golden chance to really end their offseason with a bang. Having a successful draft in my book means you add more talent across the team while ensuring you grab future stars that can instantly contribute. If the Jets really want to make some noise come next season, it all starts with adding more play-makers on offense. If they go wide receiver with their first-round pick and of course if he’s still available, the Jets should absolutely draft Kevin White.

In my recent mock draft, I had the Jets take a wide receiver but went with Amari Cooper. In my mock he was the first receiver taken off the board as they had a chance to choose between him and White. Now, nothing against Cooper as he’s also another sensational wide receiver but I’m starting to think that White would be the better option for the Jets.

At 6’3″ and 215 pounds, White would be able to step right in and give the Jets another solid dimension on offense. With Eric Decker now able to thrive in a No. 2 supportive role, that No. 1 spot is up for grabs. While Brandon Marshall should be able to nab it, sometimes a young rookie sensation might surprise many and make their own case to start.

Nothing against Marshall but the Jets need to keep adding top talent on offense if they want to seal the deal and be competitive in the AFC East. Too many times the Jets marched down the field only to settle for a field goal the past couple of years. Needless to say, it’s demoralizing to say the least.

With an infusion of veteran receivers and a young talent with plenty of upside in White, the Jets can end the drought by lighting up the scoreboard with ease. Even though nobody knows who will be the starting quarterback between Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick for next season, if you have a great receiving corps they can make either option look great.

The Jets made some incredible moves this offseason to bolster their defensive secondary tremendously and now need to shift the focus to offense. Taking a wide receiver in the first round and then an offensive lineman in the second round would be a solid strategy to go with.

Make no mistake about it, the Jets need to go wide receiver in the first round and not even think twice. If you look at all the top teams across the NFL, they all have a solid wide receiving corps capable of pushing the envelope.

It would be huge to have the Jets field a much-improved team that has a stout defense and an offense that clicks on all cylinders.

I was excited to hear that the Jets were able to sign Chan Gailey as their next offensive coordinator. What I admire the most about him is his ability to make the most of all his players by making plays and offensive schemes specifically designed for the strengths of his unit.

If the Jets can land White, there is no doubt that Gailey would turn him into the next big thing. They could use his speed and end-zone abilities to great use while finally having another threat to make big plays once the football is in his hands.

Overall, White would be the best option to go with if he’s available as the Jets are just a few smart draft picks away from becoming a true playoff-contending team in 2015.
