New York Jets: Making the case for Vic Beasley
With the No. 6 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the New York Jets have a plethora of options to head in to ensure they put the finishing touches on their productive offseason. In my mock draft, I actually had the Jets take wide receiver Amari Cooper which got me thinking, should they actually add more to their pass rush instead? I honestly believe since he’ll most likely be there for the taking, the Jets should absolutely draft linebacker Vic Beasley.
At 6’3″ and 246 pounds of pure aggression, Beasley would be able to add to their pass rush with his speed and knack for finding the ball carrier. The Jets’ defensive line is one of the best in the NFL and if it stays consistent, it could enable Beasley to really put on a show each and every down he’s a part of.

At the 2015 NFL Combine, Beasley put up some impressive numbers in front of many potential teams, including the Jets, to consider giving him a chance to prove his worth. In the 40-yard dash he did a 4.53 which proved his blazing speed. New head coach Todd Bowles must have surely cracked a smile thinking at how fast Beasley would be in a Jets uniform.
While some might think his size and lack of weight might hinder his transition to the pros, I beg to differ. Size isn’t always everything as his pure athleticism and ability to be a smart defender makes up for what he might be lacking physically. Plus once he hits the NFL, I’m confident teams will put him on the right regimen to bulk up and show him the path to success.
Last year’s draft was more about elite wide receivers but this time around, it’s the year of the pass rush. I’ve always believed that defenses win championships and if the Jets really want to push the envelope come next season, it all starts with adding more play-makers on the defensive side of the football.

Beasley has the skill-set to truly be something special. If the Jets are able to bring him aboard, there is no doubt in my mind that he’ll be a force to reckon with for years to come.
Since this new regime of the Jets has so far done a wonderful job putting the Jets in a much better position to succeed in the future, I’m sure they will also do the same at this year’s draft.
If the Jets can come out of the draft with someone like Beasley and add more depth across the team, they can very easily make one of the biggest turnarounds in team history. Last year could just be a distant memory if the Jets can come out swinging next season to prove that they won’t rest until they rekindle their winning ways.
I know that most fans are probably crossing their fingers that the Jets pull off some blockbuster trade to move up in the draft in hopes of landing quarterback Marcus Mariota but I just don’t see it happening.
I honestly believe that if Beasley is there for the taking, it would be a much better situation to take him in a New York minute to make next season a truly special one.
