1. Signing running back C.J. Spiller
There is that thing that we refer to as the eye test.
Let’s be honest. The Saints’ offense just didn’t look the same this past season minus the big-play talents of running back Darren Sproles. The versatile performer was dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles, who took advantage of all of his various skills.
Enter Spiller, late of the Buffalo Bills and a former Pro Bowler with big-play ability not only out of the backfield but on kickoff returns as well. Now he heads to the Crescent City in hopes of adding a little more balance and electricity to the New Orleans attack.
Combine the addition of Spiller and the re-signing of running back Mark Ingram, who inked a new four-year deal prior to the start of free agency, Drew Brees has quite the 1-2 punch out of the backfield. Added valuable reserve Khiry Robinson and perhaps the Saints can improve on their ranking (13th in NFL) in rushing offense in 2014.
