With the 2015 NFL Draft taking place Thursday, numerous outlets have compiled mock drafts. The New York Giants have the ninth overall pick, and there have been similar names that have appeared on experts’ mock drafts.

Players like Iowa T Brandon Scherff (according to Nick Powell of NJ.com), Alabama WR Amari Cooper and Washington DT Danny Shelton have all been linked with the Giants. The big question, though, is what happens if none of those players are available when the Giants are on the clock?

For scenario’s sake, we’ll say the first picks in the draft look something like this: 1. Jameis Winston, 2. Leonard Williams, 3. Dante Fowler Jr., 4. Amari Cooper, 5. Brandon Scherff, 6. Vic Beasley, 7. Kevin White, 8. Danny Shelton.

I’m really only saying these scenarios are under the radar because I think Scherff is who the Giants should pick, as he is probably the safest bet. Scherff has been the name probably most associated with the Giants, and offensive tackle Justin Pugh even heavily endorsed Scherff recently.

“I like the kid from Iowa,” Pugh said, when asked if he had a preference as to whom the Giants select with the ninth-overall pick, according to Giants.com. “Just from what I’ve seen. He seems like a tough kid. I would like to play with someone like that.”

If Scherff were gone, though, who would Big Blue select?

Well, with talented players still on the board, the Giants would likely use their “best player available” strategy.

Side note:

I originally had drafting Shane Ray as one of the scenarios, but with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting Ray was cited for possession of marijuana and a traffic violation, I think the Giants would almost certainly pass. Same goes for Nebraska’s Randy Gregory.
