Heading into the 2015 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens had some holes to fill in different areas of their lineup. One of those needs was at the TE position. With Owen Daniels heading to the Denver Broncos and Dennis Pitta missing part of the 2014 season with a season-ending injury, Baltimore need to bolster their tight end depth was crucial. They accomplished that during days 2 and 3 of the NFL Draft.

After filling a different depth need by drafting WR Breshad Perriman with the 26th overall pick in the first round, the Ravens strategically traded up three picks and one spot ahead of AFC North rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, in order to draft the first of two tight ends. Ozzie Newsome’s draft strategy continued to be golden as they selected TE Maxx Williams with the 55th pick overall.

He will most likely start Week 1 against the Denver Broncos as Dennis Pitta still recovers from a hip injury and Daniels is no longer with the Ravens. The other tight ends in Baltimore, <a id=. TE. On day 3 of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Ravens added another target that Joe Flacco can potentially throw to with their first pick in round five. This time they selected an athletic tight end from Flacco’s alma mater, University of Delaware.

player. 26. This is the first time Baltimore selected two tight ends since 2010 when Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta were selected in the third and fourth rounds, respectively. It appears Williams will be used for more passing plays, while Boyle is primarily implemented as a pass and rush blocker.<p>“It’s a great day,” Tight Ends Coach Richard Angulo said <a href=. TE. The addition of both of these tight ends fill needs. It’s unknown when Pitta will return from his second season-ending injury in as many years. Pitta has played his entire NFL career in Baltimore, but his tenure could be coming to an end if he sustains another serious injury. Despite not finding a replacement following Daniels’ departure to Baltimore, the Ravens filled their serious holes at tight end during the draft. Don’t be surprised if both Williams and Boyle line up against the Broncos during Week 1.
