Seattle Seahawks Should Not Trade Michael Bennett
Winning football games is usually a recipe for player satisfaction. Issues within an organization typically don’t rear their head when things are going well. While the Seattle Seahawks fell just short of their ultimate goal this past season, overall, things are going great for Pete Carroll and company in the win department.

But despite undeniable high-level success over the past two seasons in Seattle, rumors are once again swirling that Michael Bennett wants out. Which, if true, is shocking proof that two straight NFC titles and a fat contract are apparently just not enough for some people.
Word originally hit the internet back in March that Bennett wanted a trade to the Atlanta Falcons. Ultimately, those murmurings were shot down by the Seahawks and Bennett himself.
Now, trade talk is back surrounding the 29-year old thanks in part to some speculation from CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.
"“He’s kinda sorta tried to say that he didn’t really want to be dealt after all, but that’s not flying anywhere. He and his agent have made it clear he’d rather not be back in Seattle and while the Seahawks aren’t ones to back down, perhaps something emerges that makes sense for all parties prior to the start of the regular season. Kind of odd not to be so happy in a franchise that competes for a Lombardi Trophy, and until or unless the Seahawks put out explicit word that Bennett has permission to speak to other teams, I don’t see any clubs nibbling in this era of hyper-sensitivity over tampering regulations. But there’s a lot of time between now and September for something to perhaps change.”"
It’s really hard to see Seattle caving in and dealing Bennett, if in fact that’s what he really desires. It’s also difficult to understand how a player doing so well, on a team that’s great, making millions of dollars, could be so unhappy.
Dismissing a player’s feelings just because they make a lot of money isn’t exactly fair. However, it doesn’t mean that it’s easy to have empathy for their situation either. This whole thing reeks of a player wanting cake and to eat it too.
I believe the Seahawks should stand firm and tell the defensive end he’s going to have to deal with it. The organization just ponied up on a four-year/$28 million deal before last season. They invested a lot into a guy they thought would be around to help them create a dynasty.
Of course, you can never say never. if Bennett becomes a dreaded locker room cancer, then he’ll have to go. Only a minute percentage of NFL players are untradable, and he’s certainly not one of them either.
Looking at this whole thing logically it’s just hard to wrap your mind around. There’s no good reason the Seahawks would want to trade their top pass-rusher, nor does it make any sense why their top pass-rusher (who’s paid fairly) would want out.
There must be more to the story. For now, I give a Bennett trade less than a 10-percent chance of going down.
