1. Peyton Manning, 2013
For the third time we find Peyton Manning on this list. His 2013 season comes out as the best AP MVP award-winning season of the last decade, maybe even of all-time. Although this MVP season came with a new team, the Denver Broncos, and Manning showed that age is just a number as he rewrote the record books. I’m not sure if we’ll ever see such a dominant season from the quarterback position, but if we do I’d say that Aaron Rodgers or Andrew Luck have a good of a chance as anyone.
In 2013, Manning was a man possessed. He passed for an inconceivable 5,477 yards and a ridiculous 55 touchdowns; both NFL records. On top of that, he only threw 10 interceptions and completed 68.3 percent of his passes despite throwing the ball all over the field with regularity. His 115.1 rating was great, but not nearly as impressive as his 342.3 yards per game average throughout the season. The only blemish would be his -31 rushing yards, but no one cares about that, and he did even manage to score one touchdown on the ground in 2013.
The best is certainly behind the aging quarterback, but in 2013 he proved–yet again–that he is one of the all-time greats by turning in a legendary season at the age of 37. Could this season stand the test of time as the best MVP season ever? It certainly could, but records do tend to be broken no matter how impressive they are.
There you have it, the last 10 AP MVP seasons have been ranked. Hope you enjoyed the list; what a magical decade it’s been. Here’s to another 10 years of great football led by future AP MVP winners!
