With a combined 112 receptions for 1,882 yards and 11 touchdowns the past two seasons, one could certainly argue that Cardinals’ 2012 first round pick Michael Floyd has already broken out. However, with a receiver as talented as Floyd, he has even more upside.
While there were plenty of rumors surrounding the Cardinals dangling Floyd on the trade market this off season, they were quickly denied by Keim. The Cardinals would be foolish not to listen to offers about any player, including Floyd, but unless they were to get a huge offer, trading him would be a mistake.
Floyd is a dynamic athlete at the wide receiver position with a great combination of size (6-foot-3, 220 pounds), speed, strength and athleticism. He has shown a great ability to go up and win a jump-ball against anybody, and can also make some plays with the ball in his hands in space. Floyd has lacked consistency throughout his three-year career up until this point, but the raw talent and ability is shown on a weekly basis.
With the emerging Brown, and of course the immortal Larry Fitzgerald also taking some targets, Floyd’s upside may be limited just a little bit. That being said, their presence on the field could also cause for more opportunity against man-to-man coverage for Floyd. No disrespect intended towards Brown or Fitzgerald, but at this point in their careers, Floyd is the most talented player of the three.
He has a chance to become a legitimate superstar at the wide receiver position, and his skills should allow him to naturally progress towards that this season.
