With the New York Giants OTAs officially underway, all eyes on the rookies selected in this year’s NFL Draft to see how they perform. Just how NFL ready are they? How do they fit into the mix?

More from New York Giants

I personally like to pay more attention to the players that are selected in the “8th round”. Why? Well, they have to work harder to prove that they deserve a spot on an NFL roster. For some reason or another, they weren’t drafted. However, that doesn’t mean that they’re any less talented than the drafted players.

The New York Giants have had several undrafted free agents make an impact throughout the franchise’s history. More recently, there was a wide receiver out of the University of Massachusetts by the name of Victor Cruz who is already a Super Bowl champion and Pro Bowler.

Long before Cruz came perhaps the most successful undrafted free agent in the team’s history, safety Emlen Tunnell. He broke his neck while at the University of Toledo and after going undrafted, became one of the most dominating defensive forces of his time. The 9-time Pro Bowler and 4-time All-Pro was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967, proving that it doesn’t matter where you start, only where you end.

The Giants signed ten undrafted free agents this year. While all ten are talented, there are five players that I believe are gems which have a good shot at making the 53-man roster (either this season or next) and breaking out in the NFL.
