What can you say that hasn’t already been said about Mr. Landry? He started from the absolute bottom with the Cowboys when they were an expansion franchise, and in his final season they weren’t that great … but in between, Landry molded the Cowboys into one of the greatest franchises in all of sports.

With Landry as head coach, the Cowboys had a streak of 20 consecutive winning seasons. He was a part of them becoming “America’s Team,” and in the playoffs, the Cowboys won 20 games under Landry.

He was the coach for the Cowboys for two Super Bowl titles (1971, 1977), won five NFC Championships, was a multiple-time Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990.

The Cowboys had losing records for Landry’s first five seasons, so if this was today’s NFL, would he even been able to stay around to accomplish all the greatness his teams had? Patience is a virtue, huh?

His first 10-win season came in 1966, a year the Cowboys went 10-3-1. From 1966-73, the Cowboys won nine or more games every season, including 10 games four times, 11 games twice and in 1968 the team had 12 wins during the regular season.

Landry became the face of the Cowboys for all that he did during his three different decades as the head coach, and even to this day, when you think of the Cowboys, one of the images that comes to mind (or should) is of the man in the fedora.
