Green Bay Packers New Throwback Jerseys
By Arty Vezikov
Despite how often Aaron Rodgers has declared his admiration for the team’s throwback jerseys that were worn the past five seasons, the Green Bay Packers have announced new alternate jerseys that will be used for the next five seasons.

These jerseys, paying homage to the Packers era of 1937-49, will be worn this season in the Week 6 match-up against the San Diego Chargers.
They captivate a much classier look, in my opinion, than the previous throwback jerseys. This one features dull gold color pants, complemented by a navy blue jersey top with bright yellow shoulders, sleeves, and player numbers.
“For us, I’ve always kind of viewed, the third jersey, it makes sense to have a throwback rather than a neon, brightly colored yellow, something like that,” Team President Mark Murphy said. “I think it really kind of accentuates the unique history and tradition that we have.”
The team made the announcement on Tuesday, earlier this week, at the team’s annual shareholders meeting. The Packers are the league’s only publicly owned franchise so shareholders consist mostly of the team’s fans. All shareholders are invited to this once-a-year event. There was a crowd of around 12,000 packing in Lambeau Field.

The Packers franchise is so saturated with history that the team had really no other option than to play to its strengths in this regard. Their previous alternate jerseys featured a similar blue and gold color jersey, as you all remember, but a slightly different variation that was worn to commemorate the Acme Packers, as the team was known in 1929-30.
Murphy also introduced the league’s plan with this marketing scheme as it impacts games on NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football. In order to create a more unique football experience, combined with the fact that there is football being played on a Thursday now, the league will soon mandate all teams to implement their alternate jerseys for these Thursday night games.
“I think the idea is to kind of to differentiate so that if you were watching the Thursday Night game there’s something unique about it,” Murphy told the crowd gathered at Lambeau Field.
It’s a great look without a doubt, and bringing a blend of history into the present-day sport we all can’t help but love is certainly a promising task for the league to undertake. I personally have always enjoyed teams sporting these throwback looks and wish to continue seeing them for years to come.
The Packers were 5-0 wearing their previous throwbacks and no doubt they are hoping they bring the same luck for another half-decade.
