Philadelphia Eagles: Will Tim Tebow make the final cut?
When it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles and their outlook for 2015, it will either be one heck of a ride or something that horribly implodes. Many questioned the motives of head coach Chip Kelly when he brought in quarterback Tim Tebow into the Eagles’ quarterback situation. Some thought it was mostly a publicity stunt but turns out he has a master plan after all when it comes to Tebow if he makes the final cut.

Looking at the quarterback situation of the Eagles, it’s safe to say Sam Bradford will be starting for the team come Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. Mark Sanchez has solidified himself as a top backup quarterback and filled in nicely when his number was called last season.

Now the third quarterback position on the depth chart is where it gets rather interesting. Matt Barkley has been battling it out with Tebow all summer long and hasn’t really separated himself as a clear cut option to secure the final spot on the depth chart.
What gives Tebow a major chance at making the final cut is his pure athleticism and ability to be a real threat on offense. Not only can he pass but he can run with the best of them. As a dual-threat option at quarterback, Tebow brings more to the table than Barkley.
Rumors surfaced this off-season that after the Eagles signed Tebow to the team, Barkley was available via trade. While teams didn’t show much interest in Barkley, should Tebow land the final spot at quarterback, his tenure on the team could come to an end.
The greatest aspect that Tebow brings in the grand scheme of it all is his ability to be one huge decoy. Once he hits the field, all eyes will be on him and that will play quite the strategy against opposing defenses. Unlike his tenure on the New York Jets, Kelly will use Tebow in a variety of different yet effective ways either in short yardage situations or to truly air it out on offense.
If Tebow can prove his worth and illustrate his interesting skill-set throughout preseason football, one better believe that he will be the better option to keep on the roster over Barkley. He should get plenty of first-team reps to show he can get the job done and be an x-factor on offense this upcoming season.
In an article written by Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com, here is what wide receiver Riley Cooper had to say about Tebow’s mentality so far during training camp:
"“Some guys can look great in 7-on-7 — wide receivers, running backs, quarterbacks — and then when you get the pads on it’s a different ballgame, man. Football’s a different sport and I know Tebow lives for that stuff. He’s a tough dude and I’m anxious to see what he can do.”"

While many might have written off Tebow’s chances at ever being a top quarterback in the NFL, perhaps he can achieve greatness by finally being in a position to succeed thanks to the offensive mastermind in Kelly to really use him effectively. It won’t be easy but one thing about Tebow is the man is relentless in proving his critics wrong that he can be a successful quarterback in the NFL.
