TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins

Austin Seferian-Jenkins has a chance to give the Buccaneers three massive weapons on offense around their rookie quarterback, but ASJ hasn’t been lighting it up this offseason. Per Pro Football Focus, he had 16 snaps in the Bucs first preseason game, but he couldn’t muster a single reception on either of his two targets.

ESPN NFL Nation’s Pat Yasinskas wrote that ASJ has been dropping “way too many passes”, going as far as to say that the Bucs could start Brandon Myers over him. While I prefer Tim Wright as a player to Myers, the latter looks like the second-string TE right now, but I still don’t see Seferian-Jenkins, whom I was a fan of as a prospect, getting benched, unless if he slides further.

The coaching staff seems to love him, and I’m sure offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter would love to utilize his talents after missing Tony Gonzalez last season with the overwhelmed Levine Toilolo as his starting TE. Seferian-Jenkins didn’t play well last week and has been poor at camp, so it’s best if he steps it up, just in case the Bucs are seriously considering benching him. I doubt that’s in the cards, but ASJ would do well to generate some positive momentum anyway.
