2. Darren McFadden improves play in Week 3 of preseason

Darren McFadden is not setting the football world ablaze, but McFadden averaged 9.25 yards per carry in his first preseason action, including a 15-yard run where he looked similar to his former, injury-free self. But still, even though his play improved, after this entire preseason and camp I still worry about the workload he and Joseph Randle are capable of handling.

If healthy, as I’ve said before, McFadden and Randle can make this running back tandem work because of the rest if the pieces on the offense with one of the best tight ends to ever play the game, a Top 10 NFL quarterback and an offensive line that when healthy is second to none in the league.

The ability for a season of over 1,000 yards is there for either running back to have (depending on their workload, of course), but they also have to stay on the field and produce as well.

If that 15-yard run McFadden had is just a sample of what is to come, if he follows his blocks (look at the block Lucky Whitehead had to keep the play moving) like a former fourth overall pick should, then the Cowboys will be in good shape.

On the other hand, if that run was just a tease of what could have been … well, it could be another long season for McFadden, and an even longer season for the Cowboys rushing game, because with the current roster the Cowboys have, McFadden is a player who must carry the football for positive yardage.
