NFL: Each Team’s Biggest 2015 X-Factor
Dec 20, 2014; Santa Clara, CA, USA; San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Bruce Ellington (10) rushes for a 1 yard touchdown during the final minute of the second quarter against the San Diego Chargers at Levi
San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington
I waited for Quinton Patton to get a chance, but now my attention has turned to a 5’9″, 175-pound fourth-round pick out of South Carolina in the 2014 draft. Bruce Ellington, who could make an impact as a returner, might not be as trendy of an “X-Factor” pick as Jarryd Hayne, so I like Ellington a bit more as an “outside-the-box” pick.
Ellington runs a 4.45 forty with a 39.5-inch vertical and has exceptional quickness and lateral agility. With the ball in his hands in space, Ellington is capable of taking it to the house, just as he did on this memorable 70-yard catch-and-run touchdown.
Chances are that Ellington won’t make a profound impact on the 49ers offense, but if he does, then he could give them an explosive dimension to help out vertical threat Torrey Smith, possession wideout Anquan Boldin, and star TE Vernon Davis.
