Ty Montgomery a Sigh of Relief for the Special Teams

Rookie receiver Ty Montgomery was drafted out of Stanford in the third round to resurrect the Packers return game. The special teams unit faced great scrutiny following last season and needed to make big changes.

Montgomery certainly played his part on Sunday as he was able to set the Packers up in great field position whenever he touched the ball. On three kick returns, he averaged 35 yards per return with a long of 46 yards.

Montgomery looked very comfortable in his role and was able to find running lanes with ease.

At halftime, Chicago led 13-10 and was set to kick the ball off. The Packers rookie had a great return up to the 39-yard line, which essentially jumpstarted the Packers offense. Aaron Rodgers was able to take advantage of the field position and drove the team down for a touchdown, on a one-yard strike to James Jones.

The return game is often overlooked but it can swing the momentum like nothing else. A feared return man creates a big advantage for the team.
