The Tennessee Titans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers squared off in the opening game of the 2015 NFL season. That means the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks from the 2015 NFL Draft squared off in the Bucs’ Jameis Winston and the Titans’ Marcus Mariota.
Mariota got the better of Winston and the Bucs on the day with a nearly flawless performance that saw him throw four touchdowns and only three incompletions en route to a huge win.
After the game ended it looked like Mariota was finding new ways to keep beating Winston.
Before their Week One match-up, Winston was leading all rookies in jersey sales. Since then, Mariota has taken over as the top rookie selling jersey season-to-date, according to the DICK’S Sporting Goods Jersey Report.
Any fan who was on the fence about Mariota appears to have jumped on the bandwagon relatively quickly and embraced his potential, and could you blame them after that performance. Based solely on that performance, Titans fans can expect to wear a Mariota jersey for years to come.
Not so surprisingly, Mariota is the top-selling jersey in the state of Tennessee. Winston is also the top-selling jersey in Florida, which might be more impressive of a feat considering the state has three different NFL franchises.
The two rookies have taken the lead in various states where New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees had the highest selling jersey. Mariota now has the highest selling jersey in Alabama, while Winston’s jersey is now the highest selling in Mississippi.
