New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady saw a court overturn his suspension stemming from the Deflategate scandal and was cleared to play in the season-opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. You might think that the Patriots’ franchise player might have seen his popularity take a dip in the wake of another cheating scandal, one that got a bit ugly towards the end.
According to The Jersey Report, his popularity has climbed, at least in terms of jersey sales.
Brady’s jersey took over the top spot in sales for the week of from September 9th to the 15th. He knocked Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden out of the top spot, but Haden still holds the no. 1 spot overall.
Brady and tight-end Rob Gronkowski reminded everyone while they’re a dominant duo in the season opener, connecting for multiple touchdowns that gave the Patriots the win. Gronkowski might have received a little bit of the Brady bump as well, his jersey was ranked third in sales during that week but not due to that Thursday night game.
Nearly 30 percent of jersey sales last Thursday before the kickoff of the season opener in the league were those of Brady and Gronk.
Clearly overly excited Patriots fans who were ready to taunt NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as their quarterback made his triumph return to the field rushed out to buy Patriots gear ahead of the game.
Guess the old adage that there is no such thing as bad publicity holds true for the Patriots and Brady.
