1. Jets running game a favorable matchup
The New England Patriots showed us time and time again that the best way to beat the Colts is to run it down their throats, and that will most likely be the approach the Jets will take on Monday night. Chris Ivory is starting to become more of a household name after previously being one of the NFL’s most underrated backs, and hopefully this will be his first season with 200 carries, as he’s already surpassed 800 rushing yards in each of his first two seasons in New York despite only carrying the rock 182 and 198 times, respectively.
Ivory took advantage of an easy Cleveland Browns run defense last week, spearheading the Jets blowout victory by putting up 91 yards on 20 carries while punching in two scores.
He’s the type of physical rusher the Colts struggle with, and I think of him as a better version of LeGarrette Blount. As we saw against Cleveland (and throughout his career), Ivory has a real knack for making defenders miss. He ripped off one 19-yard gain in Week 1, but, for the most part, he gained hard-earned yardage up the gut. This is a guy who rarely goes down at first contact, and he can set the tone for this game if the Jets let him.
