Eddie Lacy injury update: Packers RB could play in Week 3

The diagnosis of Eddie Lacy‘s ankle injury is better than the Green Bay Packers had feared, and according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the running back may not miss any additional time. The Packers host the Kansas City Chiefs in week three on Monday Night Football.

Eddie Lacy’s injury was similar to one he’d suffered in 2013 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and sideline reports during Sunday night’s broadcast indicated that he was struggling to put weight on the ankle after having it taped. Lacy was eventually carted to the locker room and officially ruled out when the teams came out after halftime.

After Lacy touched the ball just three times, veteran backup James Starks took over the starting role and ran with it. Starks rushed 20 times for 95 yards, including a 35-yard run on a well-blocked play to the right edge. He did put the ball on the ground once after making a short reception, but would be a clear starter ahead of undrafted rookie Alonzo Harris and fullback John Kuhn should Lacy need to miss a week.

The Packers schedule works in their favor here as Lacy will have an extra day and a half to rest ahead of the late Monday start. If he is able to suit up, expect to see a steady dose of Starks to spell off Lacy as the Packers protect their star running back for December and January.
