Jacksonville Jaguars: Development of Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns
Second year receivers Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns of the Jacksonville Jaguars might be one of the NFL’s best young duos that no one is talking about.
The two, combined with second year quarterback Blake Bortles, form a young, impressive trio for the Jaguars who could be the cornerstones for the franchise for years to come.

A-Rob and Hurns are currently enjoying successful seasons. Robinson’s big game was against Miami, where he finished with six catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Hurns breakout game came last week against Indianapolis in which he finished with 11 grabs for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Cole Hartley (via Big Cat Country) says, “This season, Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns are ranked first and second, respectively, among second-year wide receivers in total production. Robinson has 330 yards on 15 receptions, and Hurns has 314 yards on 22 receptions.”
“A-Rob and Hurns are at the top of the stacked second-year receiver list, together, way above names such as Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans, Odell Beckham Jr., Jordan Matthews, and Brandin Cooks.”
What’s amazing is that both A-Rob and Hurns went behind those guys mentioned. Robinson went in the second round, and Hurns went undrafted. For Robinson, it should be no surprise. As a rookie last season, the former Penn. State receiver had 48 catches for 548 yards and two touchdowns in only 10 games played, eight of them in which he started. In addition, Robinson was looked at as a breakout receiver by many heading into 2015.
Hurns rise is a surprise. The University of Miami product was expected to be a practice squad or at best a number five receiver. However, he has been the Jaguars go to guy and most consistent receiver since Week 1 of 2014. Hurns led the Jaguars in yards and touchdowns in 2014 with 677 yards and six touchdowns.
Fellow second year receiver, Marqise Lee, who was also drafted in the second round, was supposed to be the other receiver complimenting Robinson, not Hurns. Lee has shown flashes, but injuries are hampering the former USC standout.
Both Robinson and Hurns are on pace for well over 1,000 yards this season. The team hasn’t had two players over 1,000 yards since 2001 when Thunder and Lightning combo Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell did it. Heck, the team hasn’t had one receiver over 1,000 yards since Jimmy Smith in 2005.
The duo should continue to get better as Bortles progresses. Though the Jaguars are currently without Lee and tight end Julius Thomas, once Thomas comes back, he should free up room both Hurns and Robinson.
Both receivers both have two touchdowns each. However, the offense itself is only averaging 15.5 points a game. The next step for the two will be scoring more touchdowns in the red zone.
If only Marqise Lee could manage to stay healthy and get things going….
