The New York Jets relied on three of their biggest names and stars on their way to a 34-20 victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

First, it was Jets fans’ prodigal son, Darrelle Revis.  After a first drive in the second half that tied the game at 13, Darrelle came up huge.  His interception deep in Redskins’ territory changed the momentum of the entire game.  The first half was flat, including three Jets’ turnovers.  The Jets’ had a nice early drive in the third, but only ended with three points.  The interception set the rest of the game up, and the Jets dominated.

Brandon Marshall is the best receiver the Jets have had in decades. That cannot be said too many times. Marshall was unstoppable again, aside from the early fumble, catching seven passes for a game high 111 yards. His touchdown midway through the quarter was the one that put the game ultimately out of reach. His four straight 100 yard games is a first for New York Jets’ receivers since Don Maynard performed the feat in 1968-1969.

Marshall is clearly committed to the Jets and loves being here. On Chris Ivory‘s 53 yard run early in the game, Marshall was out with him, making the block that sprung the play loose. And, did everyone see how pumped up Marshall was on Fitzpatrick’s second half touchdown? It’s certainly good to have him on our side, isn’t it, Jets fans?

And Chris Ivory? Chris Ivory is a beast, plain and simple. Jets’ fans hold tremendous dislike for former general manager John Idzik. They can hold none for his acquisition of Ivory. Ivory has been the best running back on the Jets roster since he arrived, and continued his fabulous performance on Sunday. He ran it 20 times for 146 yards and one touchdown. He also had a rare strong receiving game, with three catches for 50 yards.

Zac Stacy ran it 13 times of his own, giving Ivory just enough rest to keep him fresh for the entire game.

Brandon Marshall and Chris Ivory are going to drive this Jets’ team. These are veteran players, and they are good ones. The three aforementioned players, sprinkled with some Eric Decker (who posted a TD of his own on Sunday), will lead the New York Jets to success. If they go, the Jets will.

Some other observations from Sunday’s game:

  • Welcome back Sheldon Richardson.  He didn’t have a huge impact on the game, but he did combine with Muhammad Wilkerson on his first half sack of the season.
  • The Jets’ defensive line won the all important battle against the Redskins’ offensive line.  Washington could get nothing going on the ground all day, netting 34 yards on the ground, and a two yards per carry average.  The Jets’ line continued to dominate.
  • Ryan Fitzpatrick still has the tendency to force the ball to Brandon Marshall, and it again resulted in an interception.  Yes, Breeland made a great play, but Brandon Marshall was not even close to being open.  The Jets need him to clean that up and have him pick up some outings with no interceptions.
  • What a difference a bye week makes.  In London, the Jets were charged with 14 penalties.  On Sunday, there was one accepted penalty.  Whatever the coaches are doing seems to be working.

Next week, we really get to see where the New York Jets are, as they head to New England to take on the Patriots.
