Todd Bowles is the Perfect Coach for the New York Jets

The New York Jets are riding high off of another win, this time a 34-20 win over the Washington Redskins.  The Jets posted nearly 500 yards of total offense, and the defense held Washington to a mere 34 yards rushing.  They dominated in the second half, winning going away, and giving them sole possession of second place in the AFC East.  The Jets are playing well and flying high as they head into their first battle against the New England Patriots.

But don’t tell Todd Bowles about riding high.  His “one game at a time” mantra makes him the perfect head coach for the New York Jets.  Here is what he had to say about “Patriots’ week”:

"We’re not going to look at everything else, this is a division game for us. We want to win division games. It’s still one game at a time. Wining this game is not going to make us, losing this game is not going to break us. We’re going to take the same approach we’ve been taking. You don’t get up or down for one game because it means you haven’t been playing hard in the first place. We’re going to continue to do our job and get better as a team and we’ll go forward from there."

Rex Ryan made Patriots week great fun. The build up that he created was exciting, and one of the best moments in Jets’ history was the playoff game that the team won in New England. But he got the team far too excited for one game, and it showed.

Todd Bowles is absolutely right. The Jets have a 4-1 record. Losing to the Patriots to go to 4-2 is not going to kill the season. Beating the Patriots doesn’t mean that the Jets have taken over the AFC East either. It’s one game. There are ten more after next week. Winning or losing one game does not make or break the season in week number seven.

Todd Bowles has the New York Jets going about their business quietly. They are confident in themselves, but not over-confident. The team is taking on his personality. Take a look at what Willie Colon had to say about the new approach:

"I think good teams don’t ride the emotional roller coaster. They stay steady, they stay straight ahead, and they stay in their lane. They don’t look left and right, and see what other teams are going through.”"

Colon went on, resonating the Todd Bowles’ way:

"“Where we’re trying to be at as a team, we don’t have to look at what Buffalo is going through, what New England is doing,” Colon continued. “We’re not trying to catch up on anybody. We’re not trying to make any statements. We just want to win. And everything will take care of itself.”"

Todd Bowles said it best when he talked about how he handles a big game:

"“You want them amped up on Sunday. But as far as playing a game and playing a specific person, we try to treat everybody the same, and we go about our business the same way.”"

After six years with the emotional Rex Ryan, this is the mentality that the Jets need. Todd Bowles is the man to bring it to the Jets, and the perfect man for the job.
