Chalk this one up into the “way out of left field” department. Like, I’m talking about where Henry Rowengartner threw the ball from in Rookie of the Year. Or was that right field? I digress.
So, why is Wright at No. 5 on this list when there are so many options out there? It is simple, the Minnesota Vikings were just torched for 126 yards on nine catches last week against Kansas City.
Thanks to fellow Lions tight ends Brandon Pettigrew and Eric Ebron’s statuses being in question for Sunday’s 1 p.m. matchup, Wright could pick up steam as we move toward the game. Owned in just 0.4 percent of fantasy leagues, you could easily pick him up right now or before the 1 p.m. games start if Gates gives it a go early in the morning and declares himself out before then.
With a $2,500 price tag on DraftKings, he would be an extreme value play (just as risky) if the other Lions are out. He caught three passes for 17 yards and a touchdown last week, but could be in line for many more targets and pass catching opportunities with another week of familiarity with Matthew Stafford.
Is Wright someone I recommend playing right now? No. But if you are getting close to game-time and Gates is out, you may have no other option.
