Denver Broncos: Brock Osweiler could be the real deal

With a quarterback change for the Denver Broncos this week due to an injured Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiler is in a prime position to prove that he is indeed the real deal.

When an opportunity presents itself to truly make a name for yourself, one must always embrace it and absolutely run with it. Such is the case this week as Osweiler prepares to make the jump from backup to starter in an ever-important turning point kind of game with his Broncos.

Compared to Manning, Osweiler is a completely different quarterback. He’s more mobile, has a bit better zip and precision to his passes with most important of all being that he’s steadily been developing over the past four years under one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game.

When it comes to the development of rookie quarterbacks, my mindset is a bit more old-school than most since I feel they develop better under the watchful eye of a veteran. Needless to say, Manning will go down as one of the greatest ever but one can only imagine just how great of a mentor he can be to someone like Osweiler.

For the past four years and the very moment Manning arrived in Denver, Osweiler has been developed well under his wing. Unfortunately for Manning and as many expected this season, he’s been on the decline and dealing with a few nagging injuries that will sideline him this week against the upcoming Chicago Bears.

With his first career NFL start, Osweiler will now be able to put all the preparation, hard work and film study into leading this team into the NFL Playoffs. At 7-2 so far this season, the Broncos are in a prime position to continue the momentum and if Osweiler is every bit the player that looked solid in every opportunity he got, the writing could very well be on the wall for Manning to pass him the torch as the Broncos’ starting quarterback of the future.

Ironically enough, his first NFL start coincides with Osweiler’s birthday as he turns 25 years old. What better gift than to not only get the start but also an important win? Head coach Gary Kubiak will no doubt touch up the Broncos’ offensive playbook to utilize Osweiler’s strengths with his quick, short passes and let his receiving targets take it from there.

One can’t help but feel excited for Osweiler to take this huge opportunity and be the quarterback this team needs at this very moment of the season to truly push the envelope. It couldn’t have come at a better time as this is the period in the NFL season where if teams get hot, they can ride it straight to the promised land.

Overall, I fully expect Osweiler to deliver against the Bears and actually bring some incredible energy and efficiency into the Broncos’ offense. He’s been working hard for this moment as one better believe he’ll be playing for much more than just a win on Sunday.
