Seattle Seahawks should still be feared in NFC

The Seattle Seahawks haven’t had their normal success in 2015, but they should still be feared in the NFC.

Over the past few seasons, there are few teams that had the success that the Seahawks have achieved, as they have gone to the playoffs three straight seasons, with two consecutive trips to the Super Bowl.

The 2015 season didn’t get off to the start that the Seahawks would have liked, as they lost to the St. Louis Rams on the road in the first week of the season. The Seahawks’ Week 2 matchup on the road against the Green Bay Packers was not an easy game, as the Packers were certainly motivated to get some revenge for the NFC Championship loss, and Aaron Rodgers is a difficult player to defeat on his home field.

In Week 3 at home, everything looked right in the world for the Seahawks, as they were able to win rather easily against the Chicago Bears at home, as they looked good on both sides of the ball. The next week against the Detroit Lions at home, the Seahawks would squeak out a win with a little help from the referees on a blown call in the end zone on a fumble by Calvin Johnson.

The next two weeks would be against very tough opponents in the Cincinnati Bengals and the Carolina Panthers. The Seahawks weren’t able to defeat either of them, as they blew leads in the fourth quarter in both games.

With a 2-4 record after six weeks, the panic button was certainly being hit in Seattle.

After the disappointing loss at home to the Panthers, the Seahawks went back on the road to play the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football, and their defense was able to have a vintage performance, as they held the 49ers to just three points. In Week 8, the Seahawks were able to get back to .500 with a 13-12 win against the Dallas Cowboys, as they narrowly avoiding a disastrous loss.

The Seahawks had their bye week in Week 9 before a huge game at home against the Arizona Cardinals, but despite the extra rest, the Seahawks came up short against one of the best teams in the NFC.

After slipping back under .500, the Seahawks were able to once again beat the woeful 49ers for their fifth win of the season.

In Week 12, the Seahawks needed a win against a good team in the Pittsburgh Steelers, as they really haven’t beaten a good opponent this season. The once vaunted Seahawks’ defense was torched by Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers’ offense, but it was Russell Wilson and the Seahawks’ passing offense going toe-to-toe with one of the best offenses in the game.

Turnovers proved to be the difference for the Seahawks in Week 12, as they were able to get their best win of the season in a crucial time in the season.

The win against the Steelers put the Seahawks into the final wild card position in the NFC if the season ended today over the Atlanta Falcons. The Seahawks currently hold the tie-breaker on the Falcons based on them having a better winning percentage in the conference. The Falcons are free-falling since their hot start to the season, as the Seahawks should certainly be making the playoffs as a wild card in the NFC.

The Seahawks may not be the same they were in the previous two seasons, but they are one that can still compete with the teams ahead of them in the standings. The Seahawks have a lot of experience in big games, and can certainly beat anyone in the NFC come playoff time.
