New York Giants: Lots of Options on Day 2 of NFL Draft
By Ryan Disdier
Offensive line
Le’Raven Clark, Texas Tech
Clark would almost make too much sense for the Giants in the second round. He could likely come in and be a day one starter at right tackle.
Here’s and NFL personnel director’s take on Clark, according to NFL.com.
"“He’s going to end up being big time in our league. He’s got elite foot quickness, he’s long and he’s smart. He’ll keep getting better once he gets to a pro offense and away from that stuff Texas Tech does and he’ll become one of the top five tackles in our league.”"
The Giants may have to trade up to get Clark, but it would make a lot of sense.
Cody Whitehair, Kansas
Whitehair is regarded by many to be the top guard in this class. So it was surprising to see teams draft guards not named Cody Whitehair.
Whitehair, who was a four-year starter in college, is exceptionally fluid in his technical game, and he’s one of the safest players in this draft. He’s drawn comparisons to Zack Martin, which is certainly a good thing.
Drafting Whitehair would allow the Giants to plug him in right away at right guard, and presumably fix up the interior of the offensive line.
Jason Spriggs, Indiana
Spriggs’ best assets are his long arms. Those are going to make him a lot of money in the NFL, as will his tremendous athleticism. He reminds me a bit of New Orleans Saints’ Terron Armstead from an athletic standpoint.
Whereas Whitehair would solve the Giants’ interior issues, Spriggs would be a huge upgrade at the right tackle position. His durability is something that may make him more appealing to the Giants, as well.
He can deal with athletic defensive ends, and I think he has the skill-set to move to left tackle if Ereck Flowers gets hurt.
Other names to consider: Christian Westerman (Arizona State), Shon Coleman (Auburn), Nick Martin (Notre Dame), Jerald Hawkins (LSU)
