As the Kansas City Chiefs head into training camp, their quarterback situation is already set. Hence, there is truly no need to acquire Nick Foles.

When it comes to the quarterback situation of the Kansas City Chiefs, all is well in the Heart of America. At this point in time, quarterback Alex Smith leads the charge. The No. 2 spot behind him is up for grabs due to the departure of Chase Daniel via free agency this offseason. Competition will heat up in training camp between Tyler Bray, Aaron Murray and Kevin Hogan.

With the sudden release of quarterback Nick Foles from the Los Angeles Rams, many are wondering where exactly will he end up in 2016. As a veteran quarterback who had some major success a few years ago, Foles brings experience to the table and if healthy, can be a difference maker in games. Problem is, the Chiefs simply don’t need to bring him in when it comes to the grand scheme of things.

Smith is as reliable as they come but with the way defenses in the NFL continue to get younger, faster and more aggressive over the years, one can never stay away from the possibility of injuries. There is no reason to worry about what would happen if Smith would miss any time as the Chiefs have a young group of quarterbacks that are ready to step in and take care of business.

While the No. 2 spot is open for grabs in training camp, if Bray wins the position he’s more than capable of being a quality backup to Smith. He has solid arm strength and a nice skill-set that will only get further developed over time. The final spot on the depth chart for the Chiefs at quarterback will come down to either Murray and Hogan with who gives the franchise the best impression for a possible future franchise quarterback to develop over time.

It would be rare to see the Chiefs head into the regular season with four quarterbacks but they have everything they need to once again be a contender in the AFC West.

To spend money in acquiring Foles, considering how stacked the Chiefs are at the position, wouldn’t make any sense whatsoever.

Foles more than likely wants to be a starter and there is no way the Chiefs would think about replacing their current and proven gunslinger in Smith.

Smith is entering some of the best years of his career and continues to light up the scoreboard as last season, he totaled 3,486 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Foles on the other hand just simply didn’t live up to his potential. Due to injuries and a decline in play, he’s simply not the same player that made headlines with the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2013.

To bring him into training camp to compete for a backup spot doesn’t make sense since well, the Chiefs have a young group of quarterbacks that will be competing one day for a starting spot once Smith decides to call it a career. It would mess up their rhythm of getting valuable reps all summer long and in preseason football should the Chiefs bring in a veteran quarterback as a possible backup to Smith.

Developing young talent like the Chiefs have been doing is a nice blueprint for many teams across the NFL to follow. For stability, it’s best to build a foundation of developing young talent from within under the watchful eye of a veteran. Someone that makes everyone look up to and admire while also honing their crafty to eventually take their place.

Overall, it’s best the Chiefs stay far away from Foles (part of current Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid‘s last team in Philadelphia in 2012) so it doesn’t mess up their strategy of developing their future quarterbacks. He simply isn’t starting material anymore and based on his actions this offseason of not reporting to organized team activities and demanding a trade plus his eventual release due to the Rams drafting Jared Goff, doesn’t strike many as a true leader in the locker room.

Despite the Foles/Reid connection, the Chiefs already have a great thing going and it’s best they continue with what they currently have at quarterback.
