Los Angeles Rams: Analyzing Progress of QB Jared Goff To Date
As the Los Angeles Rams continue training camp, analyzing the progress so far of quarterback Jared Goff shows that he needs much more development before taking over.
Quarterback Jared Goff enters his rookie season with an impressive resume out of California. In his collegiate career, Goff totaled 12,195 passing yards, 96 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. As the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Goff has a huge amount of pressure to deliver big results sooner than later but the approach the Rams have been using thus far is imperative for future success.

The Rams traded up in this year’s draft to ensure they selected a quarterback worthy of turning this franchise into being a serious contender. It’ll take some time but so far, the Rams have been using Goff with their second-team unit during training camp and will more than likely keep it that way moving forward.
At this point in time, it looks like the Rams are content with having quarterback Case Keenum being their starter this upcoming season. His career so far in the NFL isn’t anything to rave over but he brings some stability and consistency under center. Considering that the Rams will be launching a run-oriented offense in 2016 led by running back Todd Gurley, they won’t require much out of Keenum in the grand scheme of things.
All of which bodes well for Goff since so far during training camp, he’s been a bit unimpressive. It’s expected for a rookie quarterback getting acclimated to life in the NFL. As per EddieP of Turf Show Times, he’s been overthrowing passes and missing the precision needed to execute as he’s been coughing up interceptions as of late.

Of course it’s still early in training camp but with preseason football pretty much here already, hopefully he’ll see some time playing against opposing teams to get a better feel for things.
His progress so far this offseason is good from a point of view in him using his high football IQ to absorb as much as he can.
Head coach Jeff Fisher will more than likely announce Keenum as the Rams’ starting quarterback to avoid any controversy as it’s best to keep Goff on the sideline this upcoming season since by the looks of it, he’ll need more coaching and training.
With their incredible defense and rushing attack, the Rams should be able to bounce back from 2015 which was a season most fans want to forget.
Being relocated to Los Angeles is perfect timing considering the Rams drafted their future franchise quarterback and are steadily building the pieces to form a strong contender in another year or two. If things don’t work out with Keenum and Goff starts to show his true potential during practices in the regular season, he might get an opportunity to start once he’s proven ready.
Since it’s just currently training camp, there is no need for fans of the Rams to worry about what they will eventually have with Goff. The best teams of the NFL know when you have a franchise quarterback of his caliber being developed within the organization, these hiccups and times of confusion will always happen.

Overall, while Goff is going through the usual trials and tribulations of training camp as a rookie, he’s going about things as expected. He’s not ready yet to start for the Rams come Week 1 but he could be starting if things don’t turn out as envisioned during the middle or even late in the regular season when he’s given the green light. It would be in the best interest of the Rams to wait another year or two before putting him under center but at the end of the day, he’s on his way towards honing his craft towards greatness.
