The New York Giants survived a late surge from the Philadelphia Eagles, securing second place in the NFC East.

28. 31. 23. 54. Final

The Philadelphia Eagles offense started slow, with rookie quarterback Carson Wentz throwing two interceptions on the first two drives. The New York Giants and their quarterback Eli Manning capitalized on the rookie mistakes, scoring two touchdowns. The first one was to his star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who later scored another touchdown.

After a bad start, Wentz started to dial in and showcased his arm talent. He found rookie receiver Bryce Treggs for a beautiful 58-yard pass, which later led to a rushing touchdown by Ryan Mathews.

One of the biggest storylines after the game was Eagles head coach Doug Pederson. On two separate occasions, instead of kicking a field goal and taking the points, he decided to go for it. The aggressive coaching is sometimes a good thing, but both fourth-down conversion attempts failed and the Eagles walked off the field with no points. The worst part about the conversions, outside of leaving six points on the field, was that Pederson called a ridiculous quarterback sweep, which failed miserably.

When the Eagles did decide to kick a field goal, kicker Caleb Sturgis connected on 3-of-4 attempts. The one miss wasn’t really a miss as Jason Pierre-Paul blocked it.

With all that in mind, somehow the Eagles still came flying back. They kicked two field goals in the fourth quarter to get within five (23-28). Manning helped them out by throwing two interceptions late, but one of them was a ridiculously good play by Eagles cornerback Nolan Carroll.

The Eagles had one last chance to win the game, but poor play-calling and wide receiver Jordan Matthews turning the wrong way to catch the ball ended the game. New York has now won three games in a row while the Eagles have lost four of their last five
