Jets at Dolphins Recap, Highlights, Final Score, More

The Miami Dolphins beat the New York Jets at home for the first time since 2011, extending their winning streak to three games.

The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets played a game that was true to form for the rivalry. It wasn’t pretty. There were mental errors on both sides, costly penalties abound. It was back-and-forth throughout the matchup. But when the clock reached zero, the Dolphins prevailed.

Thanks in large part to some late-game heroics from return man Kenyan Drake, the Dolphins walk away with a tough victory. For the first time since the 2011 season, Miami beat the Jets at home. They have now fully recovered from their early-season debacle. At .500 on the season, Miami reaches a favorable portion of their schedule and look to make a late-season push.

Dolphins Front Four – For the second week in a row, the Miami Dolphins front line came through in a big way. Cameron Wake had a two big sacks and, even bigger, two forced fumbles. The Dolphins could not recover either fumble, but the pressure was felt in a big way.

Beyond Wake, the rest of the front four showed up, and showed up big. Ndamukong Suh’s name was called all day. Suh has taken a lot of criticism since coming to Miami for “not being worth the money,” but he’s been everywhere the last few weeks. He’s earning that paycheck, though it may not show up in the box score. Dolphins defensive tackle Jordan Phillips came through in a big way for Miami, too, coming up with a timely interception and highlight-reel hurdle.

Dominique Jones, Dolphins – The tight end position for the Miami Dolphins has been virtually non-existent the entire season. I think most pundits and fans alike would have assumed today would be no different. Starting tight end Jordan Cameron was placed on IR earlier this week with a concussion, and reports have been swirling that he’s considering retirement.

The Dolphins second-string tight end, Dion Sims, was also out on Sunday, also missing the game with a concussion. Enter the virtually unknown Dominique Jones.

If you had told me before the game that the Dolphins leading receiver would be a tight end, I would have laughed. If you had told me that tight end would be Dominique Jones, I would have just been confused. But Jones came through in a big way, coming up with three big grabs, including one for a touchdown. It will be interesting to see if Jones can grab a bigger role in this offense going forward after his impressive showing today.

Kenyan Drake, Dolphins – Any time you make the game-winning score, you’ve done something impressive. When you do it on a kickoff return in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter, you earn a “star of the game” designation. With all the momentum seemingly on the Jets side, Miami returner Kenyan Drake was gifted a 96-yard touchdown to put the Dolphins up 27-23.

Drake’s return came after the Jets were called on an offsides penalty, negating a return by Jakeem Grant that would have left the Dolphins on their own 19. With the way the game had swung, and the questionable play-calling the Dolphins had turned to, the result may well have been completely different.

Next Week

Miami goes on the road for the first time in over a month next week, as they head to San Diego. The Dolphins look to extend their three-game winning streak and push their record past the .500 mark for the first time this season. The Chargers have been hot lately, winning two of their last three.

The Jets, meanwhile, look to clean their wounds and get back on track against the Los Angeles Rams. Each team has just three wins on the season. The Rams come into New York having lost their last three games, and could make it four with a tough game against Carolina later today.
